Every home game in the Seattle Seawolves’ history has featured a boisterous sold out crowd. On Sunday, March 10 the Seawolves hosted the Houston SaberCats
for a pride night game that proved Seattle’s love for its inclusive community, and rugby. The SaberCats came to prove themselves and tensions ran high,
which led to strong defensive fronts from both teams. For much of the game, both teams were only able to kick for points, but the Seawolves gained
momentum in the final twenty minutes, in their typical fashion, to pull off a 27-14 win against the SaberCats.

 

KICK OFF:

Ben Cima kicked things off and a quick SaberCats penalty gave the Seawolves a chance to kick for points, Brock Staller sliced the posts perfectly which
brought the Seawolves to the board first, 3-0. A lineout overthrow gave the SaberCats the ball and a chance at a breakthrough down the pitch. The SaberCats
managed a try but kicked wide for the conversion, which brought the score to 3-5 SaberCats.

 

20 MINUTES:

A long string of phases by the Seawolves tested the SaberCats defense. Eric Duechle was able to break free and sprint to the try line, but it took three
SaberCats defenders to bring him down and tear the ball loose just short of a try. The SaberCats took advantage of the momentum and charged up field.
Another penalty called against a scrambling Seawolves defense gave the SaberCats the opportunity to kick for points, they increased the lead to 3-8
SaberCats.

 

40 MINUTES:

The Seawolves entered the second half ready to battle. A Seawolves scrum grew to a mauling attack and Jeremy Lenaerts dotted down for a try. Staller converted
once again bringing the Seawolves into the lead, 10-8. Shortly after, an offsides call against the Seawolves gave the SaberCats another penalty kick,
and a slight lead to 10-11 at the 50th minute. The Seawolves quickly returned the favor when a penalty call was in their favor. Brock Staller opted
to kick for points and succeeded, 13-11 Seawolves. Within a few minutes the SaberCats were called for not rolling away once again, but Staller missed
the kick for points with the score remaining 13-11 Seawolves with twenty minutes to go.

 

60 MINUTES:

Houston faced another offsides call, and Staller lined up once again for a deep kick at the posts, but the kick went wide. The SaberCats received a penalty
call in their favor and made their kick to take the lead 13-14 SaberCats with just over ten minutes remaining. The Seawolves were not ready to stop
fighting and knew they had to show up big for their fans. JP used quick footwork and a pass to Lenaerts got bumped to Sequoyah Burke-Combs who dove
in for a try in the corner that shifted the momentum of the game. Staller converted on a wide kick, 20-14 Seawolves with eight minutes to go. Still
in the echoes of the crowd’s cheers, Eric “The Beast” Duechle showed up in big form as he stole the ball from a SaberCats’ error off the box kick and
raced across the pitch for another Seawolves try and conversion. 27-14 Seawolves to end the game.

 

FINAL SCORE:

Seawolves win 27-14 against the Houston SaberCats.

The Seawolves take to the road next against Austin Elite Rugby on Saturday, March 16 at 4:00 PM PT. The game will be available to watch on ROOT SPORTS.
